Jam During Mental Health Month

You know when you're driving down the freeway to your destination, and you look left or right and laugh at the person in the car next to you singing and dancing in their seat?  That's me.  Hi!  When you drive 60+ miles on the 405 everyday, you have to do something to destress, right?  That's why I listen to podcasts (RIP The BS Report), "read" audiobooks, and jam to the radio and Pandora.

About a year ago, USA Today wrote a story listing the 20 Surprising, Science-Backed Health Benefits of Music, which is perfect for Mental Health Month.  According to scientific studies, listening to music can reduce the perceived intensity of pain; improve workout motivation, endurance, and performance; improve sleep; help you eat less; reduce stress and anxiety; and relieve symptoms of depression.  So go ahead: JAM!

Some of my favorite car dance songs -- don't judge:

Kelly Clarkson's STRONGER, because what doesn't make you feel pumped up and strong like these lyrics?

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
What doesn't kill you makes a fighter
Footsteps even lighter

Here's a secret -- while Demi Lovato normally annoys the heck out of me, her version of LET IT GO rivals Idina Menzel's... really!  The rest of the movie FROZEN is terrible with their messages of "love at first sight" (forget everything and everyone else), parents telling their child to hide who they are, snowman murder/suicide... this kid gets it.  But I do enjoy Ice Queen Elsa; just look at this power ballad:

I don't care
What they're going to say
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway!

And finally, this song just makes me happy.  Imagine Dragons - ON TOP OF THE WORLD

What are your favorite dance jams?  I highly recommend you store your favorites on your phone and then play them while driving, jumping on a bed, or videochatting with small children (to dance along).
