Hike for Heroes

November 11, 2011, or 11-11-11, is known by many as an extreme day for wishing.  Urban legend has it that if you see a clock hit 11:11 (this works better on digital timepieces), that you are supposed to blink and make a wish for good luck.  2011 marks the once-in-a-century time for the ultimate wish: 11/11/11 @ 11:11:11.  You had two chances: what did you wish for?

November 11, 2011 also celebrates Veterans Day, a national ceremony that is held each year on November 11th at the Arlington National Cemetery at exactly 11:00am, where a wreath is laid upon the Tomb of the Unknowns.  To honor and thank all who have served our country, public offices are closed and ceremonies take place around the nation.

In honor of veterans, one man is hiking thousands of miles across America for military families.  Troy Yocum walks for Hike for Heroes, a fundraising program for Wish Upon A Hero, which has granted over 82,000 wishes for military families.  Troy has currently walked over 39,080,000 steps so far, and with your help he will walk and fundraise even more.  Click here to learn about upcoming Hike For Heroes events through StayClassy to join the walk for military heroes.
