October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I recently attended an informative lecture by Sojourn, part of the Ocean Park Community Center in Santa Monica, CA.  Sojourn's mission statement says: "Sojourn provides battered women and their children a safe space to regroup, rebuild, and reestablish their self-esteem and lives."  Sojourn provides a 24-hour anonymous hotline, community outreach and education, legal advocacy, and resources for people experiencing domestic violence abuse.  Sojourn helps people safely get out of abusive situations and move on to better and safer lives.

Interested in helping?  Sojourn's programs need volunteers to help with the 24-hour hotline, support groups, children's programs, and their GROW horticultural therapy program.  Administrative opportunities in donation sorting, fundraising, and help with everyday operations are also available.  Sojourn is also recognized as an official charity of the Los Angeles Marathon, and runners, bikers, and walkers are needed to represent the organization and raise funds through the marathon race.
