Woof! Spend Time With Animals

Photo Credit: San Diego Zoo on Facebook

Being Facebook friends with the San Diego Zoo is tough: they show pictures of adorable animals all day!  Seriously, we're in love with the hippos, flamingos, pandas, and elephants that crawl on our newsfeed.

We're inspired (despite allergies) to go find some animals to bond with... while volunteering!  There are a ton of opportunities in your local area to work at an animal shelter while doing a good deed.  Shelters are looking for people to walk dogs, clean cages, stuff envelopes with educational materials, plan fundraising events, foster animals until they are healed or adopted, assist in the front office, and so much more.  Those who have special veterinary, fundraising, or community relations training and experience are especially helpful too.  Search Petfinder or Pets at Answers.com for cute animals and local shelters to get started.

Still unconvinced?  Take a look at some open opportunities and top reasons to volunteer at your local shelter from the Humane Society, the LA County Department of Animal Care & Control, and DoSomething.org.  Local zoos and aquariums often have volunteer opportunities too, so take a look at the San Diego Zoo or Google your closest animal park.  Roar!
