CGI U & The School Fund

The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is currently wrapping up at this year's University of California, San Diego location.  The three-day event welcomed innovative and intellectual panelists who spoke on the topics of education, environment & climate change, peace & human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. Students and national youth organizations came together to discuss action plans and partnerships to improve the world.  Program participants included Chelsea & President Bill Clinton, Alexandra Cousteau, Mandy Moore, Chad Hurley, Sean Penn, Claude Jeudy, Drew Barrymore, and many more who we deeply admire.  Click each of the links to see how these speakers are helping to change the world.

The 2011 Commitments Challenge at CGI U was awarded to The School Fund, a person-to-person platform to link students to people who could fund their education efforts.  In Tanzania, primary school is free, but secondary school fees cost about $150.  Thousands of 7th grade students pass the qualifying exam each year, but cannot continue their education to due the high cost of attendance.  A group of students created The School Fund to commit to finding funding for these intelligent and ambitious students, and CGI U recognized this commitment.
