Africa Outreach Project

Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron founded the Africa Outreach Project to focus on HIV/AIDS research in South Africa, her native home.  CTAOP works with partner organizations to improve health and development in African communities.  Some of their projects include:
  • Mpilonhle.org: A mobile health and computer unit designed to serve 10,000 students and over 20,000 community members.  Healthcare nurses, social workers, and psychologists travel with each of the mobile units to evaluate students and present guidance for living a healthier life.
  • City of Joy Project: An artistic project in the Democratic Republic of Congo to support women who experience sexual abuse, and aid in their healing through lessons in self-sustainability, group therapy, dance, self-defense, and economic and sexual empowerment.
  • Home Field Advantage: Charlize's team is pairing up with Matt Damon's ONEXONE project (see our previous post about OXO here) to build soccer fields and water wells in empty areas to encourage community gatherings.
We admire Charlize's dedication to Africa, and can't wait to see the next partnership she creates with her community of supporters.

The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) is committed to reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and sexual violence among African youth by supporting and collaborating with organizations that provide preventive education.
