The NFL Community

Well, football season is here. Time to put on your jerseys, overindulge in nasty food, and forget about another season of disappointing baseball. Of course, NFL teams care about philanthropy too.

The Green Bay Packers and their Head Coach Mike McCarthy have partnered with the Seven Loaves Project to donate $100,000 to the organization to support villages in Rwanda. This donation will support "training in bread baking and small-business skills." Click here for the Packers' press release.

The San Diego Chargers started the Chargers Community Foundation in 1995 and the Chargers Champions program in 2000. These programs provide badly-needed funding to San Diego County schools for physical fitness, nutrition, and other athletic-related programs.  The grants stress the importance of health and well-being for San Diego students, schools, teachers, and coaches.

If you're interested in learning more about what NFL teams do off the field, go to your favorite team's website. Most teams have a "Community" tab or link that will show recent press releases, foundation news, and players in the community.

Here's to an exciting new football season!
